Lutron is the oldest and largest dimming company in the World
Joel Spira invented the electronic dimmer in the 1950s
Joel Spira and his wife Ruth founded Lutron in 1959 after Joel invented the first solid state dimmer in a makeshift lab in their apartment in New York City.
Their headquarter in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania is a fitting tribute to their success. In almost 50 years of innovation, Lutron has invented hundreds of lighting control devices and systems, and expanded their product offering from 2 products to 15,000. The company has advanced the technology of lighting control while maintaining top market position by focusing on exceptional quality and design. Lutron continues to lead the market in high-quality lighting controls for fluorescent, halogen incandescent, magnetic low-voltage, electronic low-voltage and LED light sources.
The introduction of the Grafik-Eye in the 1990s has once more pushed the company to new heights, as the innovative nature of this "smart" product changed the rules of the game once more. At about the same time, Lutron embarked on a new challenge: dimming natural light with the introduction of the Serena shading system. Lutron introduced at the CES 2012 a new version of this system, the Sivoia QS Wireless cellular shading system, battery operated, remotely controllable either via an IR wand or a wireless control system and DIY installable.
Joel Spira died unexpectedly on April 8th, 2015 of natural causes. I was lucky enough to meet him many times and he and his wife came to visit in Paris when I was their French distributor. We had a jolly good time visiting lighting designers together and we ended up in a very good restaurant in Saint Germain, where Ruth chose the wine, a Château Beychevelle from Saint Julien in Bordeaux, my favourite region

Tripak - NEW!
Lutron most cost-effective energy saving solution
Energi TriPak consists of transmitting devices that send out radio frequency (RF) commands to the load controllers. The load controllers receive the RF command
and perform the appropriate action based on the information received.
An expandable, easy to program, whole building energy saving solutionA simple, programmable, smart module that controls all the lights and saves energy in a commercial space. Energi Savr Node can be used to switch third party ballasts and other non-dim loads, and connect wired and wireless occupancy/vacancy sensors, daylight sensors, and wallstations to manage light in a variety of spaces. Ideal for retrofits and new construction, each module can be installed locally, without connecting to a central panel.
Save energySave energy and comply with codes by easily integrating with wired or wireless occupancy sensors and daylight sensors. Occupancy sensors provide energy savings by ensuring lights are off when rooms are unoccupied. Daylight sensors increase energy savings by automatically turning off electric light when daylight is sufficient. An optional astronomical clock can further automate the lighting in your shop or restaurant.
All Apple Stores around the World use a similar LUTRON system. Easy to programPreconfigured occupancy sensing and daylighting modes eliminate the need for system programming. Use the Apple iPhone or iPod touch mobile digital devices(1) for easy and intuitive system fine-tuning.
ReliableConnect the new QS Sensor Module to the Energi Savr Node for communication with wireless devices in the space – features Lutron reliable Clear Connect™ Radio Frequency (RF) technology. Patented SoftSwitch relays are rated for one million cycles, significantly reducing maintenance costs.
QuantumTotal Light Management SystemQuantum Total Light Management™ maximizes the efficient use of light to improve comfort and productivity, simplify operations, and save energy. This powerful and efficient system dims or switches all electric lighting, and simultaneously controls daylight using automated shades. Quantum easily integrates with building management systems. A solution for new construction and retrofits, Quantum is ideal for office buildings, hospitals, universities, and more.
Quantum equips all Apple stores around the world. System ArchitectureSave energyIn most office buildings, lighting accounts for more electricity usage than any other system (around 39%). Using occupancy sensors, daylight sensors, controlable shades, timeclocks and/manual controls, Quantum reduces lighting energy usage typically by 60%.
Lower costsQuantum can help lower both operating and maintenance costs by using only the necessary amount of electric light, automatically turning off the lights in vacant spaces, dimming lights during peak periods, reducing HVAC loads by automatically controlling shades, and reporting lamp failures for optimal group re-lamping.
Increase space flexibilityWith Quantum, lighting and shading zones can be reconfigured without rewiring, making a space highly adaptable. As the needs of a space change, wall controls and occupancy and daylight sensors can be reassigned to different fixtures or groups of fixtures. The Quantum system is scalable from small spaces, to entire floors, and to whole buildings or campuses.
