An innovative range of extruded recycled timber waste composites
The sustainable, low carbon, eco-friendly & energy efficient timber alternative
Innowood Group was established in year 2005, the first company in Australia to be involved in the designing, developing, manufacturing, marketing and sales of Composite Wood Products.
The first commercial application of Innowood in Australia was the “Wild Life World Sydney” building at Darling Harbour in year 2006.
The design brief was quite specific. The facades, shade awning and external parameter soffits were to incorporate a weathered hardwood timber look and profile, which was to directly complement the surrounding wharf complex.
Firstly, that recycled weathered hard wood could not be sourced in Australia, secondly if a similar timber could be found, the weight issue regarding installation to the concrete block walls yet again posed another problematic issue to address.
The solution-was to resource an alternative product, that was lightweight, looked exactly like weathered hardwood.
The designer of Innowood developed with a unique clipping system, no nails or screws were need, and all panels were clipped into position. The colour match and texture was nearly a perfect match.
The end result was a substantial cost saving for the project as well as a responsible approach towards sustainability.
An Innowood’s innovation can be seen at Sydney’s wharf 8 and 9 in Darling Harbour.
They had originally been designed using timber, but the architect had concerns on how the timber would be able to with-stand the deteriorating effects of saltwater.
The Innowood material used on the project is salt water resistant - it doesn’t grey, and it with-stands fungal decay. The project was successfully completed in 2007.
The success of these applications and many more prove Innowood can meet many requirements with a consistent performance that showcase the benefits of this innovative material.
Innowood has the capability to offer solutions through a team of professionals and specialists for total engineer, design, supply and install solutions, including project management.
